Welcome to The Butcher Shop

LOCATIONS

Welcome to The Butcher Shop, a hidden gem nestled in the heart of San Diego at 5255 Kearny Villa Rd. This distinguished steakhouse masterfully combines an upscale vintage ambiance with a warm, cozy vibe, making it an ideal destination for any culinary enthusiast. Known for its exceptional service and inviting atmosphere, it has become a beloved spot for both locals and visitors alike.

As I stepped inside, the charm of old-school Americana swept over me — think plush red leather booths paired with crisp white linen tablecloths. The atmosphere resonates with a sense of nostalgia while offering modern culinary delights. Guests are greeted with a hearty dose of hospitality from the friendly team, which enhances the overall dining experience.

The menu at The Butcher Shop is a carnivore's dream. The offerings begin with tantalizing appetizers like Prime Rib Bites ($20) and Artichoke Crabcakes ($21), expertly paired with house-made sauces that elevate the flavors. My personal favorite was the Charbroiled Oysters ($24), which were simply divine, served on the half shell and bursting with flavor.

  • Lobster Bisque ($16): A creamy, luxurious soup that sets the mood for the feast to come.
  • Butcher Shop Spinach Salad ($16): This salad, adorned with applewood bacon and honey mustard dressing, is a winner for its fresh, vibrant flavors.
  • Filet Mignon: Known for its tenderness, this cut is cooked to perfection and promises a juicy experience.
  • Seafood Tower: A market price delight that impresses with its variety and freshness.

The Butcher Shop also shines in its presentation of classic steakhouse sides, although some patrons note a slight increase in prices with new ownership. However, the quality remains uncompromised, as referenced in numerous customer reviews. Diners rave about dishes like the Roasted Bone Marrow ($22) and the succulent Lobster Tail ($45), showcasing the culinary expertise present in every bite.

Of course, no meal is complete without a sweet ending. The cheesecake slice for birthdays is a welcoming surprise that embodies the restaurant's spirit of celebration and hospitality.

Even with a few criticisms regarding service timing and sides no longer being included with steak orders, the consensus remains: The Butcher Shop delivers a remarkable dining experience. From delightful food to a warm atmosphere, it stands as a prime establishment where memories are made over expertly crafted dishes, making it a must-visit on any culinary journey through San Diego.

Whether you're there for a family gathering, a romantic dinner, or simply to savor a well-deserved steak, The Butcher Shop promises a warm embrace and unforgettable culinary adventure. With every visit, I leave with a full heart and a satisfied palate, eagerly looking forward to my next experience.

Really wonderful dinner. I loved the atmosphere and service. The filet, spinach salad, asparagus and duck fries were great. We really were very happy with our evening. The crème brûlée was awful though, very hard custard with the texture of wax and the wine glasses should've been polished before we sat down because they looked filthy BUT overall, great dinner

I've come to The Butcher Shop in Convoy with my mom for their Thanksgiving buffet two years in a row, and we absolutely loved it! The spread is amazing--crab legs, poke salad, turkey, prime rib, a variety of thanksgiving sides, lots of desserts, and even a drink included. The food is fresh and delicious, and the cozy steakhouse vibe makes it feel so special. Plus great service! A perfect spot for a memorable Thanksgiving!

Been quite awhile since I've been here. Went with family members on a weeknight for a nice pre-Christmas meal. Remember and love the old school feel. This is a tale of two but combining for a single score. On very positive notes the drinks and service were fantastic. Mai Tai and Old Fashions were great. There was a slight mix up on one of the sides I ordered and I had barely started to mention it when the server whisked it away and said they'll get the right one out right away (which they did). We encountered 3-4 servers during our meal and every one of them was superb! On the downside four of us were in a back corner booth (we're not tiny people) so it was a tad tight for four. I had the filet and two ordered Prime Rib. Overall, while everything was cooked perfectly, for our taste, they were under seasoned. My Filet was tender and juicy but frankly lacked some flavor. Similar comments for the Prime Rib. Note that the Artichoke Crab Cakes are generously sized and fantastic! Now, would we go back; yes of course. We would hope for more flavorful meat while enjoying the great service!

I can't believe i have never been here! Old school but in a cool way. Red booths, think Chicago steak house. Really cool, laid back vibes. Bigger than it looks inside. Private rooms, dining room with fireplace. Killer bar area. Happy hours with incredible food. The value is insane. 3 Sliders piled high with perfectly cooked steak, au jus and horseradish sauce. Well poured cocktails will keep you coming back for more. Veronica pours some mean drinks. They're busses Grayson is amazing. Such a gentleman, so polite and helpful. The waitresses were all so nice too. We did eat in the bar but they were all friendly when picking up drinks. Even the other regular patrons at bar were so nice. Valet out front. My new favorite cozy spot with incredible food!

I've been dining at The Butcher Shop for almost 20 years, though my recent visit was the first in about 2 years, with the new ownership... Not Changed: -Same upscale vintage, Americana decor, with red leather booths, white linen table clothes, and elegant decor. -Same great food overall -Friendly service all around from the hostess to the waitress and bussers. -The Garlic Bread is still amazing, and FREE! The Garlic Spread is YUM! Changed: -Prices have skyrocketed, as everywhere, but I knew that before hand cause I'm a OCD about looking at menus in advance(see my 2009 review!) -Soup or Salad is no longer included with the steaks...it's $8 extra now. -Choice of side no longer included with the steaks -But other entrees such as the Prime Rib, Salmon, Porkchops, and Lambchops do come with sides. -The new female waitstaff uniforms are "interesting". If your female partner is the "jealous" type, you may want to another dining establishment. $16 Chargrilled Caesar Salad...lovely! Deconstructed and nicely charred, the fresh crouton slices were great too. Big enough for 2 people. $95 Porterhouse 28oz...perfectly cooked to Medium, with a nice sear and char taste...tender, juicy, beefy, and delicious! The wife and I planned on taking some home...but we ended up devouring the entire thing. Better while it's fresh? We also paid $3 for a 3 sauce sampler... $12 Grilled Asparagus...Good! $12 Loaded Baked Potato...Good! $10 House Red Wine Glass...Good enough for unclassy guy like me! $FREE Cheesecake slice dessert...cause it was my birthday! Despite the much higher prices, I'd still rather go here than one of the corporate chains like Flemings, Lou & Mickey's, or Morton's. I'll be back here eventually on another special occasion.
